Everyone seems to think that they have the answer on the best way to do things.
I have a certain way of folding towels - and my hubby has learned to leave them so I can fold away - my way.
Experts think they know the best way to manage people and write books about those methods. And people in management or who want to be, read those books and think - this is the way this is supposed to be done. So they try to copy the method in the book and it doesn't work out how they thought it was going to go.
Some fitness coaches have only one way to train and apply the same method to everyone - but it will only work for some. It has to be tailored to fit each individual situation. I love the episode of Seinfeld where Elaine is working out at a gym and decides to follow a trainer and their client around the gym and do exactly what the trainer has the client do - to save money. It turns out Elaine gets a huge tush and is upset - but that is what that client wanted.
It is so important to pay attention to your intuition and how you feel about situations and information.
When you get advice - do not take it without question or follow it without first analyzing it. Figure out what parts of it make sense to you and which parts don't agree with you. What is causing you concern or uncomfortableness. What can you change to make it more agreeable to you? What can you remove? What can you add?
There is no cookie cutter answer for anything. Take what you read, hear, see and adjust it to make it work for you. Make it Your Way!
In coaching - that is my focus - to help a client discover their own answer - not to give them answers. When I was coaching a woman for her first time - she soon realized I wasn't going to give her the answer. She came to understand that I was there to help her figure out the best answer for her.
Her Way.
People will be much happier when they figure it out themselves as opposed to trying to follow someone else's way of doing it. Which may or may not work.
Whether it is a diet, or investing, or folding towels - I want to do it my way!! How about you?
